Took a new trail option through the back woods.
On the way home spotted a heron up to its oxters in the water hunting along the overhanging bank of a ditch. Usually they're on the waterside looking down rather than in the water looking up. It looked very out of proportion without its long legs on show. In the first picture he's swallowing what was either a mouse or a frog he'd just plucked from the bank.
