Pink Dawn, Fallen Frog

81 min
Start 5.00
I'd woken up shortly before the alarm went so getting up so early wasn't as much of a problem as it sometimes is. And the spectacular misty pink pre-dawn spectacle was well worth getting up for. Out to Eemdijk and back, the dogs enjoying galloping about on the bike-only bits where I could let them run free as there is (almost) no bike traffic so early. Just managed to yell in time to stop Rimmer from rolling in a very dead hare - he was definitely working up to it.

Sil found a stinky green ditch to jump in.
Later saw another dead bunny. The dogs had smelt it first (though even my nose could smell there was something seriously yucky somewhere close) and when I went to see what disgusting thing they were sniffing at I saw a seething heap of maggots with a pair of long ears sticking out from it. Luckily neither of them showed any interest in eating and/or rolling in this particularly busy phase of the decomposition process. Last corpse of the morning was a frog right in the middle of the path. It wasn't squashed so I suspect it was dropped from a heron's beak. Ha, so much for the beauties of nature... Ah well, no spectacular sunrises without assorted corpses to tone it down. (There's a moral in there somewhere ;-)

Running went a lot better than the evening plods of last week. I used to think that morning runs tended to be harder than evening ones but when it's so hot during the day I really should make the effort to get out earlier rather than later.
